“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that mountain.” ―  Jack Kerouac

I started Himalayan blue sheep as my dream project a long time ago in my mind. It is when I started to do it that I realized that I had been working on it my whole life. I was born and raised in a remote part of Himalayas where our way of life taught us to live in harmony with nature. My passion for the mountains combined with my acquired skills and native knowledge gave me the push required to start Himalayan Blue Sheep as a way to do what I love and to offer to everyone, a unique glimpse into the Himalayan life.

Let me tell you something more about myself

While growing up, I saw a lot of mountaineering enthusiasts in Uttarkashi who came for mountaineering courses. This piqued my interest in learning the craft. After I finished my studies, I enrolled for the mountaineering course and completed both the basic and advanced mountaineering courses from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. This is when I got to know the mountains deeply and understood the field of trekking and mountaineering down to its core. I learned from the best experts from around the country and learnt everything I could.

I went to Rishikesh in 2011 and learned everything about River rafting and kayaking. Now it’s been more than 10 years and I am considered one of the best Rafting and Kayaking guides/instructors in Rishikesh.

Trekking expertise

I organize treks in the entire Gangotri valley and lead the treks myself. I have been leading treks for over a decade. I have organized successful trekking expeditions in Ladakh including Stok Kangri and Markha valley and still do so as clients request for some unique experiences. The Gangotri valley is still untouched and since I am native to this place, I organize treks to some truly unique and magical places in the Himalayas. I have successfully conducted advanced Himalayan expeditions like Auden’s col trek. I also take expeditions to Kedartal, Tapovan, Satopanth and other Himalayan trekking destinations.

Rafting and Kayaking

My love for Kayaking and rafting has taken me to more than 10 rivers all across the country. I have explored the Kolad, Kaveri, Zanskar, Indus, Kali rivers and more if we talk about rivers outside the state. I loved kayaking and rafting on rivers in south India and west India.  I have also done kayaking and rafting on Bhagirathi, Alaknanda, Pindar, and other Himalayan rivers.

My goal

My dream is to bring my village to the tourism map of India and to involve more locals in the trekking and adventure sports field. I intend to bring prosperity to my village so that they don’t have to migrate and leave their homes like thousands of others already have. Thousands of villages are already suffering from the curse of migration due to lack of facilities. If I put my village on the tourism map, I can help in preserving the unique microculture of my village since the people won’t have to leave for job opportunities. I want to offer employment and opportunities to my village so that we can live where we are meant to live and be happy.

If you want to know more about me, join me on one of my trekking expeditions/rafting/kayaking trips. You should also check out the rest of this website to find out more about what we do and offer.

I was recommended Anup by a group of girls I met in Rishikesh. He had been very polite and ensured I had a good deal and experience for my river rafting. He also helped me find some logistics in the city even at a short notice. Good luck Himalayan blue sheep for other ventures!

Anup Sir started the course with absolute basic – and in a week’s time we were capable of going head on through some 1/2 grade rapids. Words fail me. It was an experience I will cherish my entire life – and I will definitely come back for more. Throughout the course, and through all the adrenaline, I always felt safe and I was in fact very safe. The gear provided was good and Anup sir really got the best out of us. Not to forget the photography he does for you throughout the course! I will recommend this 100%

Me and my wife did river rafting along with Anup in Rishikesh in Nov 21. It was a great experience. Anup prioritised our safety, the river was not crowded with other rafts, the equipment was in good condition, we were given wet suits that prevented us from feeling too cold even after we jumped in the water! Overall I was very satisfied.
